2 militants killed, soldier hurt in North Cotabato clash

Zamboanga City – Two militants, one of whom was a leader of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) were killed while a soldier was wounded in a clash in Midsayap, North Cotabato.

Col. Gerry Besana, Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) information office, said the clash occurred April 20 at around 5:10 a.m. at Sitio Macantal in Olandang village.

Besana identified the slain militants as BIFF leader Mando Mamalompong alias DM and Nur Hamid Sabdulla alias Tong, one of Mamalompong’s followers.

The clash ensued when the followers of Mamalompong opened fire while the joint military and police team were serving a warrant of arrest against the BIFF leader.

Mamalompong has standing warrants of arrest for murder and frustrated murder.

The troops recovered from the site one M-16 Armalite rifle, one M-14 rifle, and assorted magazines and ammunition. The wounded soldier, whose name was not yet released, was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Brig. Gen. Alfredo Rosario, commander of the Army’s 602nd Infantry Brigade, attributed the success of the law enforcement operation to the information shared by the residents.

Maj. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, Army’s 6th Infantry Division chief, said they are doing their best to defeat the enemy with the community’s full cooperation and support. (jm)
