Zamboanga City — The Coast Guard and the Bureau of Customs (BoC) had intercepted and confiscated today some P11-million worth imported tobacco products at the local port, this city.
CGS Lt Commander Jimmy Vingno said that the BoC is the lead agency in the confiscation of the imported cigarettes aboard from M/V Kristel Jane-3. The vessel arrived early this morning at Zamboanga City Port from Jolo Sulu port.
A total of 12,640 rims of imported cigarettes of different brand and varieties were accounted.
Vingno said the interception was the result of intelligence-driven and joint law enforcement operation on illegal drugs and anti-smuggling activity.
“The said boxes of imported cigarettes were reportedly mixed with ‘shabu’ but later turned out to be negative,” Vingno said.
The confiscated items will be escorted to the BOC office for safe keeping prior to proper disposition. (Ely Dumaboc)
